Jordan Willett, NSAA
Jordan’s interest in architecture dates back to 2003, when he volunteered in India to replant rain forests destroyed by colonial tea plantations. It was eye-opening to encounter an off-grid community of 15 people, 9 dogs and 5 cows, who produced their own food and generated their own power. They also created a workspace for forty more people and a school for a children in the forest. Their work and their way of life was practical, hands-on, community-building, and centered around beauty and ecological health. Through this experience, Jordan began to see architecture as a way to work with this balance. His studies at Dalhousie and his professional practice has confirmed that great design and sustainability are not mutually exclusive, but interdependent.
Jordan believes education is a key tool in combating the climate crisis. He is a sessional instructor at the Dalhousie University School of Architecture and is a public speaker on practical sustainability measures.
